The 12th ANNUAL WINES OF CHILE AWARDS (AWoCA) took place, with a panel comprised of Brazilian experts and with the best Chilean brands. This was the first time that the competition – regarded as the most important and influential in Chilean winemaking– was held outside Chile. The winners of each category were revealed during a Gala dinner, in São Paulo last Tuesday 2nd of December.
Out of the 92 Chilean wineries and over 640 wines that were blind tasted during the competition over three days, the 2011 Leyda Single Vineyard Neblina Riesling was awarded Gold Medal, and was announced Best in Category of Other White Wines.
This 100% Riesling wine originates from the Leyda Valley, 14km from the Pacific Ocean. It is a leading exponent of the cool coastal climate, with a unique fruity, dry style that expresses the minerality and elegance of the Leyda Valley. This eloquent wine boasts of citric fruits such as lime, mandarin and has prominent floral notes. Complex on the palate, the wine has a creamy texture with light touches of honey and a refreshing acidity that prolongs the finish.
Furthermore, Viña Leyda received two more Gold Medals, for its 2013 Lot 5 Chardonnay and for its 2013 Leyda Single Vineyard Las Brisas Pinot Noir.
The Brazilian specialists entrusted with selecting the best Chilean wines were distinguished sommeliers, opinion formers and media representatives (both print and digital) from around the country.
