Five VSPT wines rank among James Suckling’s Top 100 Wines of Chile
The most recent Top 100 Wines of Chile ranking, prepared annually by renowned US wine publication JamesSuckling.com, has positioned five wines from the VSPT Wine Group portfolio among the best in the country.
Viña San Pedro, Viña Leyda, San Pedro Cachapoal Andes and Viña Tarapacá were all mentioned in the report, attesting to the winemaking excellence of the group’s brands and the exceptional quality of its wines, which are recognized in the ranking year after year.
Leading the list of the company’s wines is Tayu 1865 Pinot Noir 2024, in 39th place with an outstanding 96 points and the following tasting note: “Another exciting pinot noir from San Pedro that’s one of the best from Chile. Iron, grapefruit, red berries, fine herbs and minerals on the nose. Tight and nicely austere, with a medium to full body and a very chewy finish. I love the tightness of the tannins. Drink from 2026″.
Coming in at 46th place is 1865 Selected Collection Desert Valley 2022, which received 94 points and the following description: “If you love your syrah peppery and dainty in flavours, go for this. It shows black peppercorns, thyme, rosemary and deep, fresh fruit. Lots of dusty tannins to support the flavours. Impressive concentration, length and individuality. Around 10% stems. Drink or hold”.
San Pedro Cachapoal Andes’ iconic Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabo de Hornos 2022, was described as having “Fresh cassis, blackberries, fine spices, dark olives and hints of tobacco and cocoa powder on the nose. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied on the palate, with vertical tannins and a long finish. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Around 18 months in a mixture of new oak barrels (20%), used barrels and foudres. Then the wine was racked to used barrels for five months. Drink from 2026“. With 95 points, this wine is number 60 on the list.
Leyda Lot 4 Sauvignon Blanc 2024, for its part, earned a 94-point score and 70th place, with the following tasting note: “A unique sauvignon blanc that shows great acidity. Crunchy and limpid, with excellent texture and mid-palate weight without sacrificing sharpness. Touches of chalk and minerals to the limey fruit. It shows restraint and austerity, with very good texture, acidity and length. Drink or hold. Screw cap”.
Lastly, Tarapacá Etiqueta Azul 2023, also with 94 points, was ranked 77th with the following note: “A very consistent blend coming from the best terroirs of Tarapaca. Complex, deep and fresh, with aromas of black tea leaves, graphite, dark minerals, fresh blackberries and paprika. Really juicy and linear, while the tannins are more vertical. Quite tight-grained in the lengthy finish. Give it two more years in the bottle”.
