VSPT Wine Group ratifies its Gold Member status at IWCA
VSPT Wine Group, a global top 20 wine producer, has been ratified as a Gold Member of the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA).
As part of the 2023 emission verification process, VSPT has succeeded in retaining its Gold Member status, having more than complied with the following requirements: having completed a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 for all the emissions generated throughout the entire value chain from the vineyard through to final product disposal; covering at least 90% of the company’s volume in the region where it operates; self-generating more than 40% of all the electricity consumed; and reducing the emission intensity of each litre of wine produced by 14%. These achievements were verified by the external company LRQA.
VSPT has made significant progress compared to its baseline year of measurement, 2019. This has been possible thanks to a range of initiatives, including a reduction in its use of agrochemicals, lower energy consumption, the optimization of packaging and packing materials, to name just a few. The reduction achieved is equal to 24,000 fewer tons of CO2 in the atmosphere or 5,200 petrol-powered vehicles being removed from circulation.
This milestone reaffirms VSPT Wine Group’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050, including intermediate objectives like achieving zero waste by 2030, and reducing its CO2 footprint (scopes 1, 2 and 3) by 40%, also by 2030.
VSPT is now operating with 100% renewable energy in its operation and self-generates renewable electricity through 11 solar projects and a biogas plant in Molina, which converts harvest waste into clean energy. It also manages 99% of its industrial waste.
VSPT Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director Carolina Gotuzzo said how proud she was of this achievement: “Maintaining our Gold status at IWCA inspires us to keep on making progress towards our goals, in an agenda that becomes more challenging every year. This achievement reveals the great commitment and dedication of the entire team.”
