With the opening of its new China office, global top-20 wine producer VSPT Wine Group, is continuing to move forward with its international expansion strategy designed to grow and premiumize its portfolio. The company – which already has a global presence, including branches in the US and the UK – is also looking to boost its work with partners and strategic customers in China.

Pablo Granifo, VSPT Wine Group Chairman and the company’s CEO, Pedro Herane, were present at the inauguration on 30 May of the group’s new office in Shanghai, China, in an event that included a number of VIP guests, including local authorities, trade press representatives, sommeliers and opinion leaders.

“Historically we have always had excellent commercial relations with China, but we are now prepared to go one step further.  With an excellent team, powerful brands, high-quality wines, and patience we will consolidate our years of experience to rebuild our future by operating locally, with a long-term perspective and a sustainable vision.” stressed Granifo during his inauguration speech.

The inauguration event took place in the Hotel Bvlgari in Shanghai’s historical district, in the former Shanghai Chamber of Commerce building. The activities got underway at 3pm local time with a Master Class led by the winemaker for Viña San Pedro’s iconic wines, Gabriel Mustakis, together with local wine expert Terry Xu, during which they presented Viña San Pedro’s fine wines to opinion leaders, wine educators, sommeliers and the local press.

The tasting was followed by a gala dinner in the main salon, which was attended by senior executives from the company, including Germán del Río, International Business Director and Craig Aldous, the new CEO of VSPT China, together with representatives from ProChile and Wines of Chile, as well as VSPT’s key commercial partners in China. The attendees enjoyed appetizers and dinner paired with the group’s finest wines following the inaugural show.

A multidisciplinary team of around 20 people will be recruited for the new Shanghai office. It will be led by Craig Aldous, who will serve as CEO of this branch. Under Craig’s leadership, the team will be responsible for growing our business, positioning our brands, capturing new opportunities, and consolidating our long history of relationships in China.” Granifo commented as the event closed.
