Wednesday June 16th, 2021

From the 1st-3rd of June, a series of panel discussions were held with an aim to reflect upon and debate various issues related to wine production and the most sustainable way of moving forward. The summit brought together the leading wineries in terms of sustainability from around the world. Bárbara Wolff, Chief of Corporate Affairs & Innovation for VSPT Wine Group, was present, as well as Francisca Estartus, Head of Sustainability for the Chilean wine group, which also has operations in Argentina.

The event kicked off at 9am with the first session, entitled: “Why wineries should tackle climate change, and how the IWCA can help”, which featured Bárbara Wolff. It discussed the importance of commitment and support from wineries in terms of sustainability, as well as the work that the IWCA is carrying out.

Francisca Estartus then joined for a third session, entitled: “How do you get started working with IWCA?”. This dealt with the participation and work carried out together as a member of the IWCA, and it was also an open space for questions.

VSPT’s participation came to a close on day two with Bárbara Wolff, who was part of the panel: “What is a circular winery? Is it worth your time and cash?”, in which circular economy for the wine industry was discussed in detail.

Wolff spoke about the importance of having spokespersons at the summit: “It is necessary to have these spaces for discussion. It enriches us as an industry and as a company, and of course enables us to share our findings and encourage others to be part of this important crusade.”
