The results were recently announced for the Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 (DWWA), one of the most prestigious and influential international competitions in the world. In the 13th version of this British competition, around 15 thousand wines were evaluated by a select panel, comprised of over 200 experts of different nationalities –amongst those sommeliers, special journalists, distributers and importers.

In this version of the competition, Viña Leyda performed notably with its Leyda Single Vineyard Kadún Sauvignon Gris 2014, receiving 95 points and the title: “Best Chilean White” above £15. The wine was described as ““a beautiful example of Sauvignon Gris with a typical nose of fresh cut grass, herbs, tropical fruit and white asparagus. Delicious ripe grapefruit and flinty character on the palate with a well-integrated acidity, an invigorating salty touch and long after taste. Complex, fresh and exquisite”

The acknowledgement emphasizes this Sauvignon Gris as the country’s best for its category. It also won an outstanding Platinum Medal in the international competition, replacing the Regional Trophy used in previous years.

In turn, the Leyda Single Vineyard Cahuil Pinot Noir 2013 and the Leyda Single Vineyard Garuma Sauvignon Blanc 2015 were awarded Gold Medal, and the Leyda Reserva Pinot Noir 2015 received Silver Medal, in recognition of these two grape varieties’ excellence in the Leyda Valley.

The British magazine Decanter is one of the most valued publications in the wine industry with subscribers from 92 countries. The prizes that are awarded in the DWWA each year are a benchmark for the viticultural industry and for consumers at an international level.
