On Wednesday October 16th, Matías Cruzat, the winemaker for Viña San Pedro’s renowned wine brand: 1865, directed a comprehensive vertical tasting of the 1865 Selected Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon for specialist wine press in New York City.
During this exciting event, the winemaker Matías Cruzat – who featured in Decanter as among the New Generation of Chilean Winemakers in 2018 – took the opportunity to carry out a tasting of eight vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon, which is regarded as the portfolio’s most acclaimed variety.
The wine selected for the occasion was 1865 Selected Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maipo Valley, which was tasted by important journalists from the world of wine in the New York Bar: Masas. Critics had the opportunity to explore the characteristics and differences expressed in eight vintages of the wine: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2018.
During the event dynamics, Cruzat demonstrated the winemaking consistency and excellent aging potential of this Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon from 1865, as well as providing a brief description of what each season was like with regards to climate and harvest dates.
It was an extraordinary chance for the winemaker to demonstrate the unique qualities and characteristics of 1865 to press. The brand stands out for its incredible exploratory spirit in pursuit of the finest origin for each variety.
